PEDIGREED SEED SHOWCASE

A pedigreed seed showcase highlighting the founding principles of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association will be continued in 2016. The goal is to encourage all pedigreed seed growers to remain active in the industry and the OVSGA.

The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers will continue to support the growers of Pedigreed Seed in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Space will be offered to showcase samples of their 2015 seed production. New varieties are encouraged. Open to all Pedigreed Seed Growers who hold a valid Crop Certificate and all lots must meet the requirements of the Seed Act and Regulations. Ottawa Valley Seed Growers will sponsor each exhibit of seed per grower at the current retail value. Seed will then be sold at the Prestigious Pedigreed Seed Auction with proceeds to charity.

Each seed grower exhibit will consist of 3 units of seed and a 5 kg sample for display purposes.

NEW FEATURE EVENT – MALT BARLEY SHOWCASE

A new event in our show will feature judging and display of Malt Barley lots grown in our region and available to the Malt industry. This feature event is designed to bring together agriculture’s most talented crop growers with a quickly growing industry, Ontario’s micro-breweries.

Barley lots grown in 2015 from Certified seed of 2-row and 6-row malt varieties will be eligible for entry in this class. Interested parties wishing to enter this special event class are asked to contact OVSGA Director Reuben Stone by February 19, 2016 at 613-646-9737 or [email protected]. Entries to this event will be tested for Malt characteristics important to the industry in addition to visual character. We will be displaying the judged samples at OVFS 2016.

Our hope is to advance this Showcase over the coming years as a true demonstration of agriculture’s connection to our local food processing industry, highlighting the natural link between farmers, brewers and our thirsty neighbours and friends.
