Hi, my name is Kathryn Stanton. I am a second year student at the University of Guelph. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce in Food and Agriculture business and Co-op program. This is a 5 year program in which I have five, 4 month Co-op terms in addition to the knowledge I acquire in my courses. I grew up on a beef and cash crop farm just outside of Pakenham. My family has been farming in the Ottawa Valley for 7 generations now and are proud to be a part of such a great region. Growing up in the agriculture industry and taking part in 4H clubs, I found my passion for agriculture and with all the possibilities and opportunities the industry has. I wish to pursue a career in Canadian agriculture following my studies and help keep the industry thriving as it evolves, as well as educating consumers about where their food comes from. I aspire to find my part in this industry and truly make a difference, hopefully coming back to the Valley to fulfil my career. Agriculture is an industry I am very proud to be a part of and can’t wait to make a difference in. It is an honour to be awarded with the 2017 Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association Scholarship. Financially this award will be helpful as I continue my studies with the funds from the award going towards paying for a portion of my education and textbooks. This award is an amazing opportunity to help support the next generation to purse agriculture in our quest for a more sustainable and efficient future.
